Tyler Texas Rose Festival
October 19-21, 2012
Discover why people keep coming back, year after year, to be part of Texas' most beautiful event. You'll be overwhelmed by the unbelievable aroma of hundreds of thousands of roses displayed in artful arrangements at the Rose Show, growing in manicured beds in the Rose Garden and covering hundreds of acres in the rose fields. Enjoy "tea with the Queen" in one of America’s largest rose gardens. Come see why everyone who visits the Texas Rose Festival leaves saying, "I'll be back!"
Day 1: Friday, October 19: Upon arriving in Tyler, our group will be welcomed by the city. The McClendon House will be toured before checking into our hotel. The 130 year old McClendon House is a Victorian style home and has been a showcase home in Tyler for years. Dinner (included) tonight will be at Mercados. Then we’re off to the Queen’s Coronation. An impressive theatrical experience will thrill all ages. Gorgeous gowns, incredible colors and an intriguing story make this a must see event. Overnight Tyler. (D)
Day 2, Saturday, October 20: A day of celebrating roses awaits us this morning. Breakfast will be at our hotel. Then we’ll off to the 79thTexas Rose Festival Parade. Our group will have reserved stadium seating. With "Indochine" as its theme, the 2012 festival will celebrate "the year of the dragon" and provide a veritable tour of Asia. "Indochine" is inspired by the magic of the East, and will explore Asian history, culture, arts, and the people. Lunch on own before heading to the famous Tyler Rose Garden and Rose Show where we can meet the Queen and her court at the Queen’s Tea and enjoy the acres of beautiful roses. Our next stop will be at the Goodman-LeGrand House. Much of what is known about the home was discovered in a diary kept by Dr. Goodman’s daughter, Sallie. Information about Civil War society and politics recorded in the diary help bring to life the history of this important home. Dinner (included) will be at Traditions. (B, D)
Day 3, Sunday, October 21: Breakfast once again will be at our hotel this morning. The Dallas Arboretum, one of the most beautiful outdoor attractions in Dallas, is our morning stop as we make our way back home. This Arboretum features 66-acres of spectacular display gardens that showcase incredible seasonal flowers, ornamental shrubs, trees and plant collections in a serene setting on White Rock Lake. World-renowned Dale Chihuly’s beautiful glass art will also be exhibited in the Arboretum. A boxed lunch will be included before leaving this beautiful garden. As we settle back and enjoy our last leg of our journey home, our thoughts will turn to the myriad of fragrant roses. (B,L)
