Southwest to the Grand Canyon Sedona and Albuquerque

June 23 – June 28, 2012
 
Day 1:    Our southwest adventure takes us west to beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico.   

Day 2:   Today we arrive early afternoon at our destination, Sedona, Arizona. Following an early check in at the beautiful Orchard Inn, leisure time is planned to rest up and relax.  Following dinner our group takes a scenic open-air trolley tour out into the gorgeous Red Rocks of Dry Creek Valley to see the stunning vistas of Boynton and Long Canyon.  Two stops along the way make for excellent photo opportunities.  

Day 3:   This morning we embark on one of Arizona’s most scenic byways, Oak Creek Canyon, to visit the Grand Canyon’s South Rim.  A Naturalist will accompany us today and share the history, geology, anthropology, flora and fauna of the area.  You will hear exciting stories and numerous anecdotes of the people and events that happened in this famous canyon.  Stops include the Grand Canyon Village allowing time for lunch and dramatic picture stops.  We visit the Navajo Reservation to learn the history of the Navajo people and stop in at the Trading Post for a cultural experience before returning to Sedona.  

Day 4:   Following breakfast this morning we enjoy leisure time in Sedona to visit the unique shops, boutiques and art galleries.  The morning is yours to explore before we head south a few miles to Clarksdale.  

The afternoon features a four-hour scenic train ride (including lunch) aboard passenger coaches and open-air viewing cars. Experience the remote wilderness of the Verde Canyon which includes red rock pinnacles, green waters and tunnels.

Day 5:   After an amazing time in Arizona we hit the trail and revisit enchanting Albuquerque, New Mexico. We arrive mid-afternoon with plans to visit “Old Town.”
 
Day 6:   Our travel this morning leads us back home with new photos, new friends and new stories to share.
