Mackinac Island

July 23 – July 29, 2012

Our seven-day Midwest tour features Saugatuck Sand Dune Rides, coastal country of grand Lake Michigan, horse drawn carriage rides, Mackinac Island and the Bavarian Village of Frankenmuth.  

Day 1:   Our travels take us through Missouri to Bloomington, Illinois where we stay the night.

Day 2:    We depart for the lake shore community of Saugatuck, Michigan.  We’ll have a blast as we ride in the large dune buggies along picturesque Lake Michigan.  We arrive late afternoon in  Mackinaw City and enjoy a hosted pizza dinner at our hotel.  This evening we relax on a picturesque, narrated trolley ride across the Mackinac Bridge.

Day 3:   This morning we head to the land of enchantment: Mackinac Island.  We board a ferry boat in St. Ignace and cruise to the island.  A short horse-drawn carriage ride awaits for a morning tour, followed by an elegant, hosted luncheon at the internationally acclaimed Grand Hotel.  A guided tour is planned for us this afternoon.  The Island House Hotel will be our home for two nights and offers exceptional views of Lake Heron and the Mackinac Bridge.

Day 4:   Today is a day of leisure to discover all the island has to offer!  

Day 5:   This morning, we say farewell to the island as we look forward to even more beautiful scenery and new discoveries.   We hop on the ferry and return to St. Ignace, where we board the motor coach.  Our next destination is Frankenmuth, “Michigan’s Little Bavaria.”  A hosted lunch is planned at the Frankenmuth Brew House, followed by free time to explore the quaint village and enjoy its boutiques, gift shops, fudge kitchens and candy makers.  Not to be missed -- Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland.  Overnight in Birch Run, Michigan.

Day 6:   Travel day from Michigan to Illinois and overnight in Springfield.

Day 7:   Our travels this morning lead us closer to home with new photos, new friends and new stories to share!
