Dallas and Fort Worth
June 1-3, 2012
Texas! It is like a whole other country! Join Kincaid Tours as we visit the DFW area. The Metroplex is a thriving center of culture, cowboys and commerce. Visitors are often surprised by everything the Metroplex has to offer: the Historic Stockyards, remarkable museums, Texas Motor Speedway, Cowboy Stadium, sculptures, serene parks , famous ranches, and don’t forget the BBQ.
Day 1, Friday, June 1: A BIG Texas welcome awaits you as you board our coach this morning. Shortly after crossing the Red River, you will hear “Ladies and
Gentlemen start your engines! “ Take the green flag for a high-speed visit to one of the world’s largest and most modern sports and entertainment facilities, Texas Motor Speedway. Bring your camera for numerous photo opportunities. Finally, imagine yourself getting ready to negotiate one of the Speedway’s 24-degree, high-banked corners that allow racecars to exceed 200mph! Laps of the racing oval, in one of the Speedway’s tour vans, produce the same hold-your-breath sensations experienced by the greatest race drivers in America. (If no activities are planned for the track, our tour will include a lap around the track.) Like paper money? Want to see dollars being printed? After lunch (on own) our next stop will be at the Fort Worth Bureau of Engraving. This site along with the DC site, are the only two sites in the US that print our money. “You can actually see billions of dollars being printed as you walk along an enclosed elevated walkway suspended over the production floor! “ Then we are off to see the Fort Worth Stockyards. You will have time to browse / shop before dinner. Riscky’s BBQ is our dinner (included) destination this evening. Then off to our hotel in Irving. (D)
Day 2, Saturday, June 2: Following a hot breakfast at our hotel this morning, we are off to see The Mustangs of Las Colinas, one of the largest equestrian sculptures in the world….a breath taking experience for Dallas visitors. Then we’re off to tour the Dallas Cowboy Stadium which has several key design features, including the largest retractable roof in the world, which when closed makes the facility the largest enclosed NFL stadium. Lunch (on own) will be at a nearby mall. The Dallas Heritage Village is our destination after lunch. Dallas Heritage Village is home to the largest and finest collection of 19th century pioneer and Victorian homes and commercial buildings in Texas. These buildings, moved from throughout North Central Texas to Dallas’ first city park, line the tree-shaded 20-acre setting of Dallas Heritage Village. Stroll the grounds and discover what life was like over 100 years ago for ordinary Texans. Were you a Dallas TV series fan? Remember who shot J.R.? No visit to Dallas is complete without visiting the legendary Southfork Ranch.
This ranch continues to welcome visitors from around the world, who come to see where "Dallas" was filmed and to experience the lifestyle made famous by the Ewings. Singing cowboys will greet our group before the mansion tour. After boarding Southfork’s Texas Tram, we will be transported to our “dinner camp”. Then it’s back to our hotel. ( B,D)
Day 3, Sunday, June 3: The 6th Floor Museum is our first destination this morning after another hot breakfast at our hotel. “Examine the life, death and legacy of President John F. Kennedy through artifacts, photographs, documentary films, areas where evidence was found, eyewitness accounts and interactive educational programming on both the sixth and seventh floors. “ Lunch today (on own) will be in the historic West End which features just about any type of food you would want to eat. Thanksgiving Square is our final destination. Visitors to Thanksgiving Square will enjoy the uniquely designed areas for meditations and reflections and the many outstanding architectural designs. The Glory Window inside the spiral chapel is a “glory” to see. What a wonderful way to end our trip to DFW since we will be thankful for our unique Texas experience! (B)
