Colorado's Sweet Tour

August 15 – 20, 2012

Palisade’s 44th Annual Peach Festival, Kit Carson Carousel, Grand Mesa National Park, Vineyards, Orchards, Coors Plant & Denver Botanical Gardens

Join Kincaid for a unique vacation to the peach and wine capital of Colorado, Palisade.   Beautiful Palisade is located along the Colorado River in a pastoral setting of vineyards and orchards surrounded by stunning Mount Garfield and Book Cliffs.

Day 1:  Our first travel day takes us across the Kansas plains to Goodland where we overnight.

Day 2: This morning we’ll take in two fun stops!  In Burlington Junction, we visit the town’s historic Kit Carson Carousel and Museum.  (Experience this beautiful piece of history, ride a zebra or giraffe, and listen to original pipe organ music)!   Our second stop is the Coors-Miller Plant located in Golden.  The 30-minute, self-paced tour, is located in the world’s largest single-site brewery and includes viewing the malting, brewing and packaging processes.
Our west-bound journey continues through breathtaking scenery and agricultural bounty as we arrive in beautiful Palisade.  We take in the scenery and check into the gorgeous Wine Country Inn, our home for the next three evenings.

Day 3: Following breakfast Friday morning, our agri-tour begins with a visit to Suncrest Alpaca Ranch and Mill and family owned and operated High Country Orchards.  Our afternoon is dedicated to Palisade’s 44th Annual Peach Festival located at Riverbend Park.  Organizers promise “down home,” “old fashioned” fun, including great food, entertainment, cooking demonstrations, arts and crafts vendors, peach grower demonstrations, exhibits and lots of sweet Palisade corn and fresh Palisade peaches!

Day 4: Saturday morning we enjoy a picturesque ride along the Grand Mesa National Scenic Byway.  At over 10,500 feet, Grand Mesa is known as the world’s largest “flat top mountain,” and is home to moose, bear and elk, and more than 200 lakes. Our  afternoon and early evening activity includes a wine tasting and hosted dinner at Grand River Vineyards.

Day 5: Sunday morning we leave the beautiful valley and head to the Rocky Mountains for a visit to Denver’s Botanical Garden.  Overnight in Goodland.

Day 6: Return home on Monday from a peach of a tour!
