Hollingsworth Peony Nursery
Comanche Acres Iris Farm

Our spring day trip is for the heart, the soul and all  of our senses.

A short ride to Maryville takes us to the Hollingsworth Peony Nursery.  The nursery is home to 1100 varieties of peonies and approximately 35,000 plants.  The later blooming varieties will be out with full double whites, pinks, and reds.  We’ll walk in the blooming fields and get our fill of fabulous fragrances.

We take a lunch break at a St. Joseph B & B and Tea House.  The home is a National Register Historic site from 1869 and is owned by the McNaughtons.  Weather permitting; we will dine outdoors on the porch and in the garden.  Our hostess Pat, proprietor and chef, will be cooking up a scrumptious lunch of quiche, shepherds pie, a garden salad and homemade strawberry short cake.  Yum!

Our leisurely afternoon continues as we visit Gower’s Comanche Acres Iris Farm.  The farm is located on fifteen acres and is owned by Jim and Lamoyne Hedgecock.  Farm owners and staff have hybridized Irises for 30 years and have introduced well over 100 new varieties to commerce.  In addition to the blooms and fresh air you will find a huge selection of bird feeders and garden art on the farm.

What an opportunity to experience “Mother Nature” in all her glory!
