Horticultural Delight

April 26-27, 2012

Put on your walking shoes as we spend two glorious Spring days oohing and aahhing over 32,000 rose bushes and over 100 acres of the most beautiful plants and flowers that Texas has to offer.

Day 1, Thursday, April 26:  After departing OKC we will travel south to The Dallas Arboretum, one of the most beautiful outdoor attractions in Dallas.  Here is a review by Charles Osgood, CBS Radio Network: “I have been all over the nation, and the Dallas Arboretum is, by far, the most beautiful garden I have ever seen.”   A docent will lead us on a guided tour through some of the 66-acres of spectacular display gardens that showcase incredible seasonal flowers, ornamental shrubs, trees and plant collections in a serene setting on White Rock Lake.  A box lunch is included.  The famous Tyler Rose Garden is our next destination.  The Municipal Rose Garden has brought Tyler critical acclaim nationwide as it caters to both the home gardener and the horticulturist. It is more than just a popular attraction, as it is both a display garden and a trial garden.  This 14-acre Rose Garden has something for everyone. A favorite of many visitors is the one-acre Heritage Rose and Sensory Garden, which has antique rose varieties that date back to 1867.  Dinner (on own) will be at the Potpourri House, Tyler’s most unique shopping and dining experience.  Overnight in Tyler, TX.   (L)

Day 2, Friday, April 27  A hot breakfast awaits us as we awake this morning.  The oldest botanical garden in Texas is located in Fort Worth which is our destination this morning.  It displays over 2500 species of exotic and native plants.  A docent will guide us through some of the sections of this gorgeous garden.  Lunch on own will be at the Fort Worth Stockyards.  As we travel back home we can start planning our own rose and flower gardens, and planning our next trip with Kincaid Tours of Oklahoma.  (B)
